My Neighbor

People In This City

My most recent past volunteer experience where I learned the most was last year. In 2014, I volunteered to serve as the Co-Chair for the Junior League of Washington’s Tossed and Found Charitable Rummage Sale. The sale presents an opportunity for members of the Junior League of Washington to promote volunteerism while developing the potential of women and improving our community.  League members donate an array of items including lightly worn clothing, furniture, and household items — we then organize a sale with all proceeds benefiting our mission as well as dozens of community partners who turn to the sale to help furnish apartments, clothe children and outfit local libraries. During this volunteer experience, we raised more than $130,000 and through our hard work I learned the importance of helping my neighbor. In the words of Aubrey Hepburn, “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.”
