South Korean Soldier


South Korean soldier stands guard at the Military Demarcation Line in the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) in Panmunjom.


Joint duty officer meetings can be called by either side.  The line of the microphone wires on the table of the conference room traces the path of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL).

The flag pole that hoists the North Korean flag is 160 meters tall.


Prisoners of war were exchanged on the bridge in the far right corner after the Korean War in 1953.  The name came from the fact that the prisoners that voluntarily chose to go back to North Korea instead of staying in the South would be unable to return to South Korea.
